Musicing is Fun

On Saturday, I played my second gig with You and Others Around You at Servant Jazz Quarters in Dalston. It was super duper fun. Roro came and took photos.

Britshop Chipshop and Inca Gold also played, and they were both awesome. OUr set was super fun, thank god, because I was in the foulest mood of all time for the rest of the night, and then I was locked out of my flat at 4 am because I left my keys at the bar. Thank god for sexy french men...just what a damsel in distress needs...especially when they happen to live down the street...

Thanks to all who came. For those who missed it, we are playing at Barfly in Camden on March 12. It's gonna be super fantastic! I promise to be in a good mood all night! I swear I am usually incredibly charming and ridiculously funny!

Love Ache

A few weeks ago my good friend Molly gave me this poem written by Margaret Atwood. For me, this is one of the truest and most eloquent expressions of love I have ever read, and it makes me weep every time like a soppy pre-teen watching Baz Luhrmann's Romeo and Juliet for the umpteenth time.

This is the love I feel. This is the love I give.

Variation on the word Sleep

I would like to watch you sleeping,
which may not happen.
I would like to watch you,
sleeping. I would like to sleep
with you, to enter
your sleep as its smooth dark wave
slides over my head.

and walk with you through that lucent
wavering forest of bluegreen leaves
with its watery sun & three moons
towards the cave where you must descend,
towards your worst fear

I would like to give you the silver
branch, the small white flower, the one
word that will protect you
from the grief at the center
of your dream, from the grief
at the center. I would like to follow
you up the long stairway
again & become
the boat that would row you back
carefully, a flame
in two cupped hands
to where your body lies
beside me, and you enter
it as easily as beathing in

I would like to be the air
that inhabits you for a moment
only. I would like to be that unnoticed
& that necessary.

Margaret Atwood

My Ass is Filled with Newspaper

On Tuesday, me and some friends (Elle Barreau, Leo Cohen and Aurore Pelisson)acted as models for our friend Tonga. The shoot was in a warehouse squat in Hackney Wick. We also shot on the roof, and the view of the Olympic site was amazing. I was wearing about 17 layers of clothing and I had a huge bustle filled with newspaper. We were instructed to act like animals, and did a sort of ritualistic mating dance...something we liked to call "sniff sniff". There was also a lot of time spent jumping perilously on a tiny trampoline, which was great fun and good exercise. As far as I know, Tonga plans to make a series of drawings from the photos, and maybe some animations as well. I for one can't wait to see the results. In the meantime, here are some photos I took with my magical iphone.

I love arting with my friends.

You And Others Around You

A few weeks ago I started singing and playing keys with this band. We are Dan Robinski, Hoey, me and JAAAAAHRN. So far so good.

 photos by Roro Charnel

John plays the Drums. Hoey plays the bass. Dan sings and guitars and writes the songs. And I sing back up and plunk on a few keys. Sounds like...post punk funk? A little joy division, a little talking heads...fun. Have a listen, folks.

We have a gig this thursday at 93 feet east, 8 pm. You should TOTALLY rsvp on facebook. And if you can't make it Thursday, we are playing again on February 26 at Servant Jazz Quarters in Dalston. Come!

And now, I present to you....Dan Robinski....
